Description / Background

Overlooking the Karuah River on the west side of the bridge, this memorial consists of three stone monuments facing west. Two flagpoles are also located at the rear of the grouping. The centre monument featuring a sculpted lion on the top is the original memorial which was dedicated on 21 December 1918. The stones to the left and right, were added at later dates.

IN MEMORY OF

Those who served and paid the supreme sacrifice during World War II 1939-1945

Erected to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII. 15th August 1945.

Centre/original monument - front, west face

ERECTED BY RESIDENTS of KARUAH and their FRIENDS in HONOUR of the BRAVE MEN who ANSWERED their COUNTRY'S CALL and FOUGHT in the WORLD'S GREAT WAR 1914-1918.
