Description / Background

Part of the Railway Remembrance Wall. A light-coloured polished wooden board in the centre of which has been painted the open pages of a book on which the names of veterans have been written.

Immediately above the page are painted a crossed Union Jack and Australian flag with a small laurel wreath where the flags cross. Above the flags is the Australian Imperial Forces insignia and at each side a painted pillar. The whole board is set in a wooden frame with glass face. The memorial is located near platform 23.

Additional information by Sydney Trains:

A fine wooden Roll of Honour board, with 14 Locoworks Tinsmithshop railways employees names who served in the First World War painted to look like two columns in a book, set behind a glass pane. It was richly decorated with a painted rising sun (Australian Imperial Forces insignia) at top, crossed Union Jack and Australian flags, a laurel wreath in a desert landscape above and columns on each side.

It was produced by tinsmith staff, and was relocated after its closure in 1988 and fixed to the eastern Railway Remembrance Wall at Central Station. Note, all the names are also listed on the Eveleigh Locoworks Consolidated Honour Roll WWI.
