2. Preparing content for Register
We have created forms to assist you in the recording of information about a memorial.
- Memorial Registration - online form. Also see: how to register a memorial guide
- Veteran recording - Veteran List Template (Excel)
The spreadsheets have been created in Microsoft Excel and can be downloaded from the website. The spreadsheets can then be used to record information when you visit the memorial.
You will need to download two spreadsheets: one for recording information about the memorial, the second to record any veteran names and service details on the memorial.
Note: If you do not have access to Microsoft Excel, you can open and edit the war memorial spreadsheets using the following free spreadsheet applications:
Mac OS X:
Recording details and description of the Memorial
Using the War Memorials Template.xls spreadsheet, please record as much information as possible including the following:
- Memorial name
- Memorial description
- Dedication date and details
- Year established
- Memorial inscription
- Contact: name/email/telephone
- Any other interesting details found through research
You may need to do some background research to find out some of the details, such as the dedication date. Accuracy is important, so if in doubt, please leave the field blank.
Information collected in this web form will be used by the State Library to update the Register of War Memorials in New South Wales. That information may also be provided to the Office for Veterans Affairs (part of the New South Wales Department of Justice) to assist with this purpose. The State Library will not disclose the information to any third parties without your prior approval. You do not have to provide the information if you do not wish to, but if you choose not to do so, we may be unable to register the war memorial you have advised us of.
Note your name as input in the 'recorded by' field and any photographer attribution will be viewable to the public. Other personal information fields on this form will not be visible.
If you wish to discuss or correct your information, please contact the State Library's Privacy Contact Officer.
