Barmedman Memorial Park and Memorials Middle Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background Barmedman Memorial Park was opened on 26 October 1920 in honour of those who served in the First World War. On 11 November 1922 a large grey granite obelisk on a red granite base was unveiled in the park. Names are engraved into the granite and highlighted in gold. The obelisk contains names from the First and Second World Wars and Vietnam. There is a single white flagpole at the entrance to the garden and a green First World War field gun at the rear. There are also two commemorative plaques on the front gate to servicemen who returned and provided their services to the R.S.L and Barmedman community. Inscription Obelisk - front To the honour and glory of those residents of Barmedman and district who served and to perpetuate the memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice in The Great World War 1914-1919. Unveiled on Armistice Day by David Nixon Esq. 11th Nov 1922 Killed in Action [Names] Your lot the glorious price to pay. Ours, to record with grateful pride. That freedom lives on earth today Because you died Obelisk - side To honour the residents of Barmedman and district who served 1939-1945 To the memory of those who gave their lives [Names] Not just today, but every day in silence we remember.
