A grey granite obelisk, set on two large steps of the same material, with polished granite plaques inset on each of the four sides of the base. Veterans' names and inscriptions are engraved on the plaques. A flagpole flanks the memorial.

A plaque dedicated to Matthew Raymond Locke and his service to RAR Australian Special Air Services Regiment was added to the Bellingen War Memorial and dedicated in 2008. Born in Bellingen, he was awarded the Medal for Gallantry in 2006 and died in 2007, aged 33 years, while on patrol in Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan.
