Description / Background

This museum commemorates Frank John Partridge, who was awarded the Victoria Cross (VC) in the Second World War. It is located in Bowraville, NSW.

Private Partridge was born in Grafton on 29 November 1924. He enlisted in the army on 21 December 1942 at Macksville, NSW. He was recommended by the Governor-General for the VC on 23 October 1945, for conspicuous bravery north of Ratsua on 24 July 1945. The insignia was presented by the Governor-General at Government House in Sydney, NSW, on 13 April 1946. Partridge was later discharged on 17 October 1946.

The military museum was once housed in the Bowraville Folk Museum. It then moved to a building next door to the present building, which it occupied in 2002. The museum's website states their mission is "to honour and preserve the memory of all who have served Australia in conflict, to advance and disseminate knowledge about their feats and to encourage visitors to reflect upon the sacrifices given by each person whilst performing their duty." The musem holds several other war memorials.
