Description

The Bundarra Lone Pine tree was planted at the front of the Bundarra Central School in 2015 and was unveiled by the Minister for Northern Tablelands, Mr Adam Marshall.

A number of Lone Pine trees have been planted throughout Australia to commemorate the Battle for Lone Pine at Gallipoli. Seeds were brought back to Australia and one was planted at the Australian War Memorial and one at Inverell. Today plants are developed at the Yarramulla Nursery in Canberra and distributed to various places for planting.

The photograph was provided by Wayne Hoppe of the Armidale Family History Group.

Inscription

 "Lone Pine"

This tree is a direct descendant of a pine cone collected from a Turkish trench by an Australian soldier, following the Battle of Lone Pine, Gallipoli, August 1915.

It was planted here to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the ANZAC landing and to honour all who have served Australia in times of war.

In Eternal Gratitude
