Description / Background

The Rozelle Hospital Conservation Management Plan (defunct) offers the following description:

'Spanish style structure. Rough rendered with tile roof/coping. Painted inscriptions appear to cover earlier inscriptions. Painted white.'

Each plaque is surrounded by what appears to be a moulded concrete garland of Australian gumnuts, leaves and flowers.

Notes on veteran names: Donald McArthur is given on the memorial as Donald McArter. The Australian War Memorial records also award Donald McArthur a DCM. All status codes are taken from information found on the Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour and in the National Archives of Australia. The memorial is located 50 metres from the traffic lights at the corner of Balmain Road and Cecily Street. This is the entrance to Callan Park and Rozelle Hospital.
