The dedication is inscribed into the marble and highlighted with black. Inscription Sacred to the memory of Captain William Grant of her Majesty's 58th Regiment who fell on the 1st July 1845, aged 33 years while gallantly leading a party of his corps to the assault upon the Pah at Ohaeawai, New Zealand. This tablet is erected by his brother officers as a slight token of esteem and to commemorate the loss of a good soldier and a warm friend. Patten Sydney NSW.
