Description / Background

This roll of honour was created to commemorate those who served during the First World War. It was originally installed in the Walker Street Methodist Church (also known as Wesley). Walker Street with two other Methodist churches were closed in the 1960s and this honour roll was transferred to the Holtermann Street Crows Nest Methodist Church. In the late 1970s, this became the Holtermann Uniting Church. Holtermann Street Church was closed in 1993 and the congregation moved to the Crows Nest Uniting Church on Shirley Road, as did the honour board.

Reverend F. Colwell was the minister of Walker Street Methodist Church (1914-1915). In 1915 he sailed on Themistocles as Captain Chaplain Colwell.

The following veterans: Cleland, Small, Winn, Davis, Lane, Roberts, Needham and Lee are recorded as being ‘indispensable helpers’ in the life of the Walker Street congregation.

Crows Nest Uniting Church is NSW State Heritage Listed.
