Description / Background

The Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows (M.U.I.O.O.F.) Loyal Coronation Lodge Roll of Honour was made in 1918. It commemorates the participation and service of the lodge members from Goulburn who served in the First World War.

The roll is made from dark stained oak and is ornately carved and decorated. It features three decorative timber finials, along the top edge of the board, carved in the shape of fleurs-de-lis. The top of board is also decorated with lodge symbol motifs, painted mainly in gold, including an eye with radiating beams, surrounding a red heart in the palm of a hand. This is the Oddfellows symbol of charity. In the centre of the board are two white marble tablets, where the names are engraved and highlighted in black.

The roll was designed by Mr Nourse, who did the carving and lettering on the tablets, and Mr Wilkie who did the joinery work. Both were members of the lodge in Goulburn.

The memorial is located inside the old caretakers cottage at the Rocky Hill War Memorial Museum.
