Description / Background

A marble column set on a marble plinth, with the inscription on the front face. A sculpture of a Bible lies on top of the column, which is also draped with a shawl. The shawl partially obscures a relief sculpture of a laurel wreath above the inscription. The shawl drapes down the right hand side of the memorial, hanging over the a relief sculpture of a rifle.

No. 1868 PTE. HENRY, GEORGE, ASHFORD. 57TH BATTALION, 15TH INFANTRY BRIGADE, A.I. FORCES. KILLED IN ACTION IN FRANCE 23RD NOV 1916 AGED 18 YEARS AND 8 MONTHS. 3RD DEARLY LOVED SON OF J. & E. ASHFORD. ERECTED BY HIS LOVING UNCLE H.W.E. ASHFORD.
