A Derrick from HMAS Sydney used as a ceremonial flagpole.

Inscription

This flagpole is a Derrick from HMAS "Sydney" and was struck by a shell (the mark of which can be plainly seen) from the German Cruiser "Emden" in the historic fight off Cocos Island 9th November 1914.

Erected by the Soldiers & Sailors War Memorial Committee. 11th November 1931.
