Description / Background

This memorial is a children's playground with a variety of play equipment which is situated within parklands with mature trees and landscaping. The memorial is dedicated to those who served in the Second World War.

In March 1947, the Mosman citizens appointed a special committee to determine a special project to commemorate the men and women from the area who died during the Second World War.  Amongst the various suggestions were a garden of remembrance, a children's playground and a holiday home for disabled soldiers. On the 11th April 1949 the Sydney Morning Herald announced that the Mosman Memorial was to be a landscaped garden and children's playground. This option was chosen from amongst twenty schemes which had been presented to the comittee. It was decided to place the garden and playground within the vicinity of the 1914-18 Mosman Oval. It was also reported that the Mosman R.S.L. had handed over a cheque for 100 pounds in support of the project.
