Description / Background

The memorial font consists of three sandstone blocks, which act as the base, middle. and top sections of the font. The middle block is rectangular and has the names inscribed on the sandstone. Later, white marble plaques inscribed with the same names were set into the relief sections on the faces of the block. As at 2021, only one plaque is attached. The top block was worked by the stonemason from its original square shape into an octagonal shape. The white marble baptismal font cup is set into the top face. The edge of the top block is inscribed with a dedication to those who served.

This memorial once sat in the entrance to St Paul's Anglican Church in Oatley, also known as Oatley Anglican Church. It was installed there in July 1917 and dedicated by the Dean of St Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney on 22 September the same year. The church donated the font to the Anzac Memorial, Hyde Park in October 2017, as part of the Anzac Memorial Centenary Project.
