Description

The Tenterfield War Memorial Baths is "dedicated to all those who served Australia at war".

By December 1951, the existing baths were in poor condition. Action was taken for new baths and the Northern Star on 10 November 1952 reported the outlined plans for the construction of a modern swimming pool. A sub-committee had been formed at an earlier public meeting and presented a report to a public meeting held that month. The Municipal Council was to be asked to contact the Local Government Department for an official to visit and the sub-committee requested that the pool be constructed as a war memorial.

The Manilla Express on 5 December 1952 reported that the Tenterfield Baths Committee hoped to build a swimming pool for £30,000. Despite these initial plans, the War Memorial Pool was constructed by the Municipal Council assisted by the Tenterfield and District War Memorial Baths Committee until its opening on 27 November 1965. It was on that date that the pool was opened by the Hon. Davis Hughes, MLA, Minister for Public Works.
