Description / Background

This memorial carillion was unveiled on 25 April 1928. It is accompanied by two bronze honour roll panels, located within the magnificent main entrance to The Quadrangle at the University of Sydney. The panels are on either side of the main entrance (eastern entrance above which is the clocktower). There are staves mounted either side of one panel.

On the right-hand side as entered, is the three sub-panelled roll bearing a dedication and names. On the left-hand side as entered is the five sub-panelled bronze roll inscribed with 205 names and surmounted with the insignia of the university. It is mounted on a sandstone plinth with an inscription. These were unveiled on 11 November 1931.

After rebuilding, the carillon contains 54 bells over a range of 4½ octaves. The carillon has regular recitals and details are available on the University of Sydney Carillion website.
