Description / Background

A concrete obelisk, surrounded by wrought iron railing dedicated to William Simon. The inscription is carved on the eastern face of monument. It was erected by the residents of Dondingalong in 1915, following his death while serving in the First World War. According to records at the National Archives of Australia, William was awarded the British War Medal, Victory Medal and the 1914-15 Star Medal. The memorial is located within the grounds of the Dondingalong Uniting Church.

Erected to the Memory of William Simon who died on February 19,1915 while serving with the Australian Expeditionary Forces in Egypt.

Aged 26 years
