Description / Background

This photographic honour roll is presented in a simple timber frame. It is dedicated to the eight employees of Clifton's Ltd, who served in the First World War. The roll includes a sepia portrait of each employee, alongside their name. The board is also decorated with a colour painting of six flags, including the Union Jack and Australian flag.

Clifton's operated a motor garage in the town of Barraba, as well as a motorcar service between Barraba, Manilla, and Tamworth. All of their employees served in the war at some stage. D. V. Clifton was Clifton's governing director and Laurie Clifton was the secretary. Arthur Halloran, Fred Darcy, Oscar Ashford, Harry Dengate, Fred Sherwood, and Gordon Sherwood were the drivers.

The memorial is located in the Barraba Historical Museum, also known as the Nandewar Historical Society Museum.
