Description / Background

This Kellyville honour roll is one of two honour boards that commemorate the First World War veterans of the Kellyville area. It is mounted beside the Kellyville First World War Roll of Honour and the Kellyville Second World War Roll of Honour on the verandah of the heritage-listed Kellyville Public School building, where it is protected from the elements.

The memorial board is 850mm wide and 1160mm tall and is comprised of gilded lettering on a marble slab, mounted on timber. It lists 33 Kellyville residents who served in the First World War, sharing 32 of the names with the other Kellyville First World War roll.

Samuel Abbott of the 15th Australian Field Ambulance, service number 2613, was added to this newer board after his death from pneumonia in March 1919. A cross beside his name and five others indicates they were killed in service. Another veteran marked with the cross, William Russell, service number 4003A, was killed in action on 25 September 1917; however, on the other First World War roll his name is not marked as killed.
