Description / Background

This Lone Pine is located in Remembrance Place, Murwillumbah. It was planted by Mr Arthur Flanagan, President of the Murwillumbah RSL sub-Branch, on Remembrance Day, 11 November 2001. A plaque recording the planting and the tree's relationship to the First World War is located close by.

Many Lone Pines have been planted throughout Australia in memory of those who served at Gallipoli.

Aleppo Pine

(Pinus halepensis)

A descendant from the Lone Pine Ridge tree at

Gallipoli brought back to Australia in 1915.

Legacy was formed after WWI to care for

widows and dependents of Australian servicemen

who paid the supreme sacrifice or died later.
