Description / Background

This war memorial is an artistically designed timber honour roll for the Second World War and the Vietnam War. It takes the form of cabinet, with two doors on the front that are framed with timber. The glass panes set into the doors protect the name panels, while keeping them visible.

The top of the board features a semi-circular pediment, which contains the Commonwealth Coat of Arms. Attached above that is a smaller timber semi-circle, decorated to resemble the Rising Sun emblem of the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces.

The board is made of Richmond cedar and pine. It was crafted by Mr A. Smale of Dinton Vale, in a style to match his earlier piece, the Oakwood and Cherry Tree Hill First World War Honour Roll (Destroyed)

The memorial would have been unveiled in the Oakwood Public Hall. At a later date, the hall and the roll were moved to the Inverell Pioneer Village. The roll is on display in the hall, which is listed separately on the NSW War Memorials Register as the Oakwood Hall Great War Memorial Extensions, Inverell
