Description / Background

The Petersham Bowling and Recreation Club First World War Roll of Honour is a timber board, listing the names of 59 members of the club who served in the First World War. The names of the five who were killed in the war are featured at the top of the board. All the names are expertly painted in gold.

The memorial is beautifully made, featuring two turned columns with Corinthian capitals. The pediment is also decorated with delicately painted scrolls and the club's initials, PBRC, overlaid on each other. A gold banner scroll highlights the words 'Roll of Honour'.

While the origins of the memorial are unknown, the maker, W. R. Griffiths, has signed their name in the bottom right-hand corner of the board.

The club was established in 1896. The board hangs on a wall inside the building, surrounded by other memorabilia.
