Description / Background

The first section of this memorial hall was opened on 3 July 1934, in honour of those who served in the First World War. It is the building with the gable iron roof. A later addition is the building adjoining the hall on the left. This building has a flat-topped roof and is dedicated to those who served in the Second World War.

Alectown had an earlier hall by September 1905. The Western Champion (Parkes), 26 January 1922 reported that a sports day originally planned for Anniversary Day had been postponed until 15 February. The proceeds were in aid of the funds for the Alectown soldiers' memorial. However, it was not until the 1930s that action could be taken to construct the hall.

The Western Champion, 6 July 1934 described the opening of the hall by Mr H.G. Elliott M.L.A. on 3 July. There was a large attendance for the event which took the form of an Opening Ball, organised by the secretary William Whitlock. The hall was constructed of concrete with an iron roof and featured a large floor space and and a large stage with dressing rooms. There were double doors at the front with two side doors on each side. At the front there was a reminder that the hall was built as a memorial to those who fell in the Great War.
