Description / Background

The memorial hall is a substantial brick building in the centre of town. The original hall was established in honour of those who served in the First World War and was opened on 15 June 1932. It was destroyed by fire in 1946 and later rebuilt as a Second World War memorial.

The Second World War honour roll, located in the foyer, is of timber construction with names and details set in gold leaf on five panels. Veterans' names, under the heading 'In Memory of' are listed on panels one and five. The Navy, Australian Military Force and Air Foce, and their major spheres of operation, each have their own panels in the centre.
