Thomas William Alchin served in the 2nd AIF in the Second World War, on operational service overseas in the Middle East, Africa, and New Guinea. He was wounded in action in New Guinea on 12 December 1942. He served a total effective period of service of 2,073 days.

Alchin was married to Dorothy Mabel Thomas. He died on 13 July 1973, aged 55 years, at Macquarie Fields, NSW (obituary The Sydney Morning Herald).
