The memorial features plaques and honour rolls for the those who served in the First and Second World Wars. Following World War One, the Corowa community met at a number of public meetings to discuss the establishment of a soldiers memorial. The Daily Express (Wagga Wagga), 16 September 1920 reported that a public meeting held two days earlier it was moved that a memorial clock should be placed in a memorial. At that stage, Samuel Nixon of 'Belmont' had given the municipality a clock as well as 500 pounds for a memorial. It was decided to combine the clock as part of the memorial and call for competitive designs for a memorial that would cost about 2,000 pounds. The Corowa Free Press, 26 April 1921 that the prize for design of the clock was won by R. Tojkander of Sydney and the Town Clerk had written away to the Institute of Architects in Sydney for designs of a memorial. Later that year, The Muswellbrook Chronicle, 9 December 1921 reported that the Corowa Soldiers' Memorial had accepted s tender for 2,150 pounds for the supply and erection of an obelisk of Sydney freestone with a trachyte base. Mr Nixon had donated a further 500 pounds to the memorial fund. The foundation stone of the clock tower was laid on Monday 26 June by the Hon. R.T. Hall, MLA. In August the Memorial Committee invited the President and Councillors of the Culcairn Shire Council to the opening of the memorial by Major General Sir Charles Rosenthal on Sunday 10 September. The Sydney Mail, 20 September 1922 described in detail the opening ceremony. The dedication ceremony was performed by Rev. R.J. Howie of Orange and some 3,000 attended the function. The designer of the obelisk was A.J. Goode, a returned serviceman of Sydney. Constructed of Sydney sandstone, it had three polished trachyte panels with the names of those who had served.
