Description / Background

The Eumungerie Great War Honor Roll is an ornate marble tablet, which lists the names of 22 members of the village who served in the war. A small black cross highlights those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The memorial consists of a white marble shield, attached to a red marble backing panel. The top of the roll is decorated with the Union Jack and Australian flags, inscribed into the marble and coloured with red and blue.

The tablet was unveiled at the Eumubgerie Presbyterian Hall on 11 July 1923. The event was described in detail in The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate on 13 July. The hall was filled with local residents, visitors, and returned soldiers from a wide area, as well as school children. The chairman was Mr G. J. Thompson and the tablet was unveiled by Mrs C. W. Brown Senr. of Branston, one of the oldest residents of the district and mother of two sons away at the war. Later in the ceremony, secretary of the Eumungerie Memorial Fund Mr B Brown handed over a cheque for the endowment of a bed to the Dubbo District Hospital.

The memorial is now located in the Eumungerie Coboco RSS and ALIA Memorial Hall.
