William Thomas Bruce was born in Queanbeyan, NSW on 12 Feb 1897 to Henry Charles and Johanna Bruce. He enlisted in the 1st AIF in 1916, and embarked with his unit to fight in France. He was wounded in action in October 1917, with a gunshot wound to the head. In 1918, he was hospitalized with influenza, and returned to Australia in March 1919. William died on 31 Jan 1970 at the age of 72.
