Veteran Notes/Bio
  1. Listed Bungendore War Memorial Hall WW 1 ROH (1917-Added name) and Bygone Queanbeyan.
  2. There are at least 19 " Smith C. J." recorded on the AWM Nominal Roll but none of the NAA files associated with these men demonstrate a local Bungendore District connection. There are no "CJE" Smiths listed on the AIF Project Database,"Mapping ANZACS ", nor the AWM Nominal or Embarkation Rolls.
  3. Stephenson:Not mentioned.
  4. Queanbeyan Age 19.2.1918 refers to "Cyral J.T.Smith" in the context of Unveiling the ROH at Bungendore a member of the G.U.O.O.This "CJT" Smith is not the "CJE" Smith recorded on the Bungendore Memorial .
  5. A wildcard search of the NAA Records in respect of Smith J.E.12 ALH  SERN 1447 reveals a Repatration Commission letter onfile dated 28.11.1960 in respect of Cyril  John Edward. His Attestation Papers indicate that he enlisted in Goulbourn and gave his NOK as John Patrick Reid of Bungendore ,noting that both his parentd were recorded as deceased.Elsewhere in this record he is only described as John Edward Smith however he is considered to be the Digger recorded on the Bungendore Memorial.
