4. AWM Nominal Roll: Rank:Private ;Unit: 56 Battalion ;DOE:14.3.1916 : RTA:25.08.1917. Discharged Medically Unfit 29.11.1917 having been: Hospitalised suffering from Trench Foot in France ,March 1917;Sustained a GSW to Right Foot (toes amputated) and Thigh in April 1917

6. Queanbeyan Age and Observer 11.08.1916 reported a farwell function at the Bungendore Public School for W.Smith, F.Saunderson, R.Smith and E.Sweeney,where each was presented with a money belt,"as a slight token of esteem from the public."

 8. Queanbeyan Age 28 January 1916 reported on the arrival of the Men from Snowy River Recruitment March in Bungendore on the 24th.The  report stated that a number of local men gave their names as potential recruits but did not join the March at that time William Smith susequently enlisted on 14.03.16. at Goulburn.
