Sergeant Matthew Raymond Locke was born on 16 March 1974 at Bellingen, NSW. He enlisted in the Australian Army on 11 June 1991 and was awarded the Medal for Gallantry in December 2006. He died on 25 October 2007 aged 33 years as a sergeant when on patrol in an area around Tarin Kot, Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan.
