No. 1 Wireless Unit were seconded by General Macarthur to return to the Philippines in the Pacific. While en route, the atomic bombs were dropped on Japan and subsequently the Japanese surrendered. The unit was dropped off on Morotai to wait for a ship to pick them up to return to Australia, leaving on 23 October 1945.

John Littley was discharged from the Air Force on 10 May 1946.
