Description / Background

This memorial tree is planted in Crescent Street in Cudgen, NSW, opposite the Cudgen Unknown Soldier Memorial Tree. It is an Aleppo pine or Pinus halepensis, commonly referred to in Australia as a Lone Pine. It is accompanied by a metal sign, mounted on a metal post, positioned at the base of the tree.

Many Lone Pines have been planted throughout Australia in public parks, school grounds, and on roadsides, in remembrance of those who served in the First World War. More information about these trees can be found on the Australian War Memorial's website
