Description / Background

The memorial consists of a pair of matching brass honour rolls, attached to timber backing boards. One is a roll of honour dedicated to those from Molong and the surrounding district who served in the First World War with their names listed in black lettering on three brass plates. The second bears a tribute to families and women war workers on the homefront.

Both brass memorials were created by the Wunderlich Company, Sydney. Both feature a pediment shelf at the top with an egg-and-dart design in the centre. An ornate banner, crowned with two small sprigs of flowers, is situated below and contains a brass plaque with the memorial dedication inscribed in black lettering. The Union Jack and Australian flag sit either side of the banner. Small decorative columns frame each side of the top half of the honour rolls, and the bottom of the honour roll is decorated with a fleur-de-lys between cut flowers.

The Sun (Sydney), 28 January 1923, reported the opening of the Molong Soldiers Memorial Town Hall by Brigadier-General Cox. On the same day, Mr J C L Fitzpatrick, Minister for Local Government, unveiled the roll and Miss T Rednedge, representing the Red Cross, unveiled the memorial in honour of the mothers of soldiers and also of the Red Cross workers.
