Description / Background

This collection of memorial plaques is located close to the Central Park Memorial Fountain.

Attached to or inscribed onto stone plinths of various sizes, the plaques are dedicated to those men and women who served in the Second World War, Afghanistan, Iraq, East Timor, peacekeeping forces, Vietnam, the Malayan Emergency and Korea.

The Vietnam plaque was dedicated on 18 August 2016, Vietnam Veteran's Day, which was also the 50th anniversary of the Long Tan Battle in Vietnam. Armidale's 1 APC member Doug Lennox unveiled the plaque and guest speaker Major Andrew May spoke about the sacrifice soldiers made while serving in Vietnam.

The other memorial plaques were dedicated on Remembrance Day, 11 November 2017.
