Description / Background

The Channon Second World War Honour Roll is a simple timber board, decorated with a colour painting of the Commonwealth Coat of Arms. The names of 90 veterans from the area are printed on the board in gold lettering. Eight veterans are marked as being killed in action.

The memorial was unveiled at The Channon Hall by Mrs Standing Snr. and Mrs W James, both of whom had lost a son in the war. The ceremony was reported in the Northern Star on 8 December. A large crowd attended the function, which included a concert and speeches from local officials and religious leaders. During his address, Mr Blake explained the electric clock hanging above the honour roll was a "gift of remembrance" from the Hall Committee, as their donated funds were not needed to help pay for the roll itself. Reverend Carr of Dunoon dedicated both the clock and honour roll.

The roll is available for viewing when the hall is open for public functions. It is not known if the clock remains on site.
