Description / Background

The memorial is a stone obelisk, established in honour of those who served and died in the First World War. The obelisk is positioned on a stepped pedestal, made of the same material. The obelisk is decorated with a relief carving of a laurel wreath and has a marble honour roll for the war attached on all four sides.

Originally dedicated on 11 November 1922, plaques commemorating other conflicts and an honour roll for the Second World War have been added to the memorial over time. A flag pole has also been erected nearby, dedicated in September 1997.

In June 2021, MidCoast Council started restoration work on this 100-year-old monument. This included work to restore the makers tablet, which helped identify the maker as Edestein & Sons, local stone masons who worked on many of the memorials across the district. This work was proudly supported by a grant from the NSW Government's Community War Memorials Fund.
