Gregson Park War Memorial

Description

The memorial is a sandstone core with marble plaques inset into each of the 4 sides. On top is a marble soldier holding a flag. The soldier is facing the south east. It is located in the centre of one of the paths. There are 3 flag poles around this memorial.The memorial is located on the south east corner of Gregson Park.

(south east face - top) This Monument was Erected by The Citizens of Hamilton in Honour of our Soldiers who fought in the Great War of 1914 - 1919 Our Fallen Heroes In Memoriam (south east face - bottom) Ald E. Wilson, J.P. President H. Atkinson, Jas. A. Beckett, J.P. Joint Hon. Secretaries W.L. Porter Hon. Architect Maisey & Tonks. Sculptors (north east face - top) Our Returned Heroes (north west face - top) Our Returned Heroes (south west face - top) Our Returned Heroes (south west face - bottom) The Flood Lighting of the Monument was Officially Switched on by The Mayoress Mrs J.E.
