Description / Background

Circular monument with columns faced with black stone, which is the centrepiece of the forecourt of the Lismore Memorial Baths. The monument bears an honour roll for the Second World War, Korean War and South East Asia Forces. Originally dedicated on 11 November 1961, the memorial was restored and re-dedicated on 2 March 2002.

Their status codes have been given as killed in action (KIA), as that is what is indicated by the memorial.
  • D Galton may be Daniel Galton died of disease/died prisoner of war (DOD/DPOW). 
  • N D Harrison may be Norman Douglas Harrison, accidentally killed (Acc Kd).

  • F R Love may be Frederick Raymond Love KIA.

  • C J Robson may be Charles John Robson KIA.
  • A W Ryan may be Albert William Ryan who may have died as a prisoner of war.
  • S O Simpson may be Stanley Oliver Simpson KIA.
  • C E Taylor may be Colin Ernest Taylor KIA.
  • V J Trunk may be Victor Joseph Trunk KIA.
  • B H Woodhead may be Benjamin Woodhead, missing in action (MIA).
  • W L Shepherd may be Walter Lewis Shepherd, died of wounds/prisoner of war (DOW/POW).
  • A J Rutherford could be either Albert John Rutherford DOD/POW or Allan James Rutherford, Acc Kd, both of Lismore. The status code for this veteran has also been given as KIA.
  • The cause of death for veteran W D Hatt is not clear. The Australian War Memorial gives the cause of death for H C Youngberry as unknown, he was a POW. These two veterans have thus been given the status In Memoriam.
  • All other status codes are taken from information contained in the Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission database, the World War 2 Nominal Roll and the National Archives of Australia.
  • Those veterans given the status of DOD/POW may have died as prisoners of war.
  • L B Barnes may have been accidentally killed, as his death occurred in Australia.
  • The Australian War Memorial awards a DFM to L J Gilbert and C W Woods.
