Description / Background

The memorial is a large three-blade propeller atop a single metal pole, at the foot of which is a small concrete block with a dark bronze inscription plaque affixed. The memorial is accompanied by a flagpole. It is located in a small park area at the northern most end of Lagoon Road, behind Old Settlement Beach.

Inscription

Dedicated to the men and women of Australia's Defence Forces who have served the Island and their country; especially the crew of RAAF [Royal Australian Air Force] Catalina Flying Boat A24-381 which crashed at Lord Howe Island on September 28th, 1948.
