The World War 1 'Roll of Honor' is mounted high on the wall inside the front entrance of Parramatta Mental Hospital’s (Hospital for the Insane) old main Administration Office Building. The Old Parramatta Mental Hospital Administration Office is now a historical site and it is occupied by Sydney University.
The WW1 memorial board is made of polished solid marble in three different colours with inlaid, engraved gold lettering on white marble. It measures 1.2m wide by 1.75m tall.
On each side of the memorial board there is a print from a painting by Will Longstaff. Both prints are .83m wide and .61m tall. On the left-hand side is 'The Immortal Shrine' and on the right-hand side, 'Menin Gate at Midnight'.
Fifteen (15) of forty-eight (48) veterans listed on the memorial board paid the supreme sacrifice and did not return home from the First World War.
Six (6) of forty-eight (48) names listed can’t be positively identified with a connection to the Mental Hospital on the National Archives Australian (NAA) web site, the AIF project data base of UNSW Canberra or on the Australian War Memorial data base.
