Wounded in action, 2 April 1917 (gun shot wound, throat), and admitted to 15th Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 31, 3 April 1917, and admitted to 13th General Hospital, Boulogne, 4 April 1917. Transferred to England, 16 April 1917, and admitted to Woking Military Hospital, 17 April 1917 (gun shot wound: severe); transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary hospital, Harefield, 30 June 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Demosthenes', 27 July 1917 (gun shot wound, larynx); disembarked Melbourne, 24 September 1917, for onward travel to Sydney; discharged (medically unfit), Sydney, 28 March 1918.
