Description / Background

This war memorial consists of three sandstone bushrocks set in a commemorative garden. Plaques are attached to the rocks, which honour each former student of Tomerong Public School who paid the supreme sacrifice.

A memorial in the form of a tape recorder was originally established in 1963 with funds raised at the school's centenary. A plaque listing three students was attached to a tape recorder, serving as a practical aid for the school. Following the recorder's demise, the plaque was attached to a sandstone block in the garden. It became a central element of the school's annual Anzac Day service.

In 2013, following further research, another name was added to the list and the original plaque was replaced with five individual plaques. Another name and plaque was due to be added in 2015.
