Description / Background

The mortar was originally located at the old memorial gates entrance to the park. It was moved from the gates in 1953 to Apex Park and then to Grange Playing Grounds where it was placed in a tree strip and fell into disrepair. There were originally two mortars, however one has since been misplaced.

In 2009, the Crookwell Historical Society decided to move the remaining mortar to the site of the Crookwell War Memorial. Mr Bev Hatch was commissioned to restore the mortar. After considerable effort by Mr Hatch, the mortar was dedicated on Anzac Day 2010.
