This war memorial is a silhouette sculpture of a First World War Lighthorseman charging into battle on his horse. He wears a slouch hat and has his bayonet raised in the air. Made from steel, the artwork has a rusted appearance. It stands atop a basalt plinth, which bears a bronze plaque inscribed with the dedication.
The memorial is located in LR Mood Park, surrounded by council-maintained gardens. It is positioned away from the crossroads and towards Albion Park Primary School. A concrete path leads past the memorial, to access the rest of the gardens.
This memorial commemorates all who served and those who fell in
WWI. It is dedicated to all sailors, soldiers and airmen in the Royal
Australian Navy (RAN), the 1st Australian Imperial Force (AIF) and the
Australian Flying Corp (AFC).
"When you go home, tell them of us and say,
For your tomorrows these gave their today."
John Maxwell Edwards 1919.
This memorial was funded by the ANZAC Centenary Local Grants Program, Department of
Veterans Affairs (DVA) and coordinated by the Albion Park RSL Sub-branch 2018.
