Dungog and District First World War Honour Roll Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This memorial is a wooden roll of honour board located in the foyer of the Dungog Memorial RSL Club and is dedicated to the men and women from the area who served in the First World War. Names are listed in seven vertical columns, with those killed in action listed in the centre column. The development of the roll of honour originated at a public meeting held in Dungog in August 1920 where discussions took place concerning the names to go on the Dungog Honour Roll. The Honour Roll was officially unveiled at a widely attended ceremony held on Saturday 11 June 1921. The mayor called upon Mr T Page who had lost two sons in the war and Major Woodman DSO, who was the first soldier in the district to enlist, to perform the unveiling. The work on the memorial was undertaken by Mr E. V. Woodman. The monument was French polished and Mr A. F. Coutts completed the printing of the names in gold. Notes based on research by Robert McLardy regarding names which have been misspelt or incorrectly recorded on the roll of honour.
