Extract from the Dungog Chronicle dated 8 March 1916:

Unveiling Roll of Honor, St. Andrew's Church.

On Sunday morning last there waa a very large congregation present at St. Andrew's Church to witness the unveiling of tho Honor Roll. The Anzac Memorial Band played martial music up Dowling Street to the Church, and attended the service in honor of their comrades. The Church was suitably decorated and our flag covered the Honor Roll. Rev. D. M. Benjamin stated that tho names on the Board were those of men of the congregation and Parish. The work was done by Miss K. Willis, who was recommended by Mr S. Adam, honorary architect of the Presbyterian Church in New South Wales. The speaker hoped that the work would meet with the approval of all. The board is of polished cedar, about four feet in height and one inch in thickness, contains the names of the following carved in the solid wood: — J. Hooke, H. E. Woodman, J. Chamberlain, W. Irwin, P. H. Throsby, B. Hooke, A. A. Hooke, R. J. Critchley, D. W. Dark, E. W. Dark, H. Neilson, A. D. Nichol son, D. D. Nicholson, C. Whelan, R. M. Cousins, A. W. Forster, A. J. Irwin, A. V. Haggarty, S. I. Forster, C. R. Hancock, 0. C. Lowrey, H. C. Mate, F. V. W. Holmes, G. A. Holmes, W. H. J. Robson, and W. L. Nichol-son. Above the names is a beautiful floral design carved out of the solid wood, and artistically arranged are the headings: Roll of Honor, 1914 — 19 — , The Great War. The Rose, Shamrock, and Thistle, and sur-mounting these a Waratah formed the floral design. Mrs F. A. Hooke, of Dingadee, had the honorable task of unveiling the Roll, and on her behalf Mr G. A. Mackay thanked them for bestowing that duty upon her. Rev. D. M. Benjamin read the names on the tablet, and the congregation stood up with bowed heads and prayed. The preacher took as his text Chap XI, 33 and 34th verse of the Epistle to the Hebrews. After giving an exposition of that text, aud having referred to the names of those outstanding characters mentioned in the passage of scripture around whom there was woven a garland of imperishable glory, the preacher went on to say that they had performed, not only single and individual deeds that called forth admiration, but deeds of a varied character.
