Description / Background

The Eugowra War Memorial is a white painted concrete arch shaped structure which was designed to protect and display the Honour Rolls attached to the inner walls. The memorial is set within the Eugowra Memorial Park and is flanked by rows of palm trees. The memorial building, including the First World War Honour Roll inside, was unveiled on Anzac Day (25 April) 1931. The Second World War Honour Roll was added on Anzac Day 1992. Whilst the First World War Honour Roll comprises one large single panel, the Second World War Honour Roll consists of two panels located directly beneath the First World War panel. Additional names have since been added to these lower panels to acknowledge service in Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam.

On 2 May 1931, the Molong Express and Western District Advertiser reported that Saturday 25 April was a red-letter day in Eugowra when the First World War Honour Roll was unveiled on the monument erected in the park. A procession was formed in front of the police station and then marched to the monument where the service conducted by Reverend E.H. Pitcher was attended by most members of the district. A collection was taken up and 135 pounds was raised to cover the whole of the money that had been required to erect it. The Cudal Boy Scouts under Scoutmaster Meigel took part in the procession and gave a display of scout work. A picnic then followed and at night all Scouts, Girl Guides and Returned Soldiers were the guests of Mr Eric Hill at the Imperial Pictures.
