Eungai Public School First World War Honor Roll (Lost) Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background Note: This listing relates to the Eungai Public School First World War Honor Roll, which is believed to be lost. The image above is of a postcard showing the roll, which was published in Nambucca Anzacs by Trevor G. Lynch (Longueville Media, 2014, p.1140). The memorial was a photographic honour roll, featuring the names and photos of ex-pupils from the school who served in the war. Printed at the top of the roll was the Rising Sun badge of the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces, with a Latin Cross and the crossed Union Jack and Australian flags. In the centre of the page was an illustration of a laurel wreath. The memorial was unveiled at the school during Empire Day celebrations on 24 May 1917. A detailed account of the event was published in the Nambucca and Bellinger News on 1 June. Sixty pupils attended with their parents and friends and witnessed May Wood perform the unveiling. The ceremony also included speeches by school staff and local clergy and musical performances. The memorial was later removed from the school and is now presumed lost.
